World Not Doing Enough To Stop Drift Towards Genocide in South Sudan-Angelina Teny

REUTERS/Tiksa Negeri[/caption] The International Community must do more to avert Genocide in South Sudan says Angelina Teny, Chairperson of the Security Committee of the Opposition Sudan’s People Liberation Movement in opposition-SPLM-IO. On a Diplomatic blitz, Teny , the wife of former Vice President Riek Machar, said what the international community considers as ethnic cleansing in her country is steadily building up to a genocide. Drawing from the example of Rwanda in the 90s, the world should not allow this to happen, Angeline Teny said.  Interviewed after meetings with UN Officials in New York, and Obama Administration Officials in Washington,DC, Angeline Teny painted a dire picture of the situation in South Sudan as she urged the international community to rein in a government running amok in Juba. The British educated SPLM-IO official said the government of President Salva Kiir shoulders the bulk of the burden for the unfortunate state of affairs in South Sudan. “Frankly speaking the ideal thing will be for such a leader and his government to just leave power,” said Angelina Teny as she lashed out at the ineptitude of President Salva Kiir who is more interested in consolidating power for himself than moving the country forward. It is unfathomable that even international aid workers do not feel safe at all after over 50 of them have been killed by government forces said Angelina. The least that can be done to give hope to despaired people in South Sudan is to restart the political process with mechanisms put in place to minimize chances of the government in Juba reneging on agreements. Africa must do more in getting African solutions to African problems, said Angelina Teny in calling on neighboring countries and the African Union not to relent on their efforts. On former Vice President and her husband Riek Marchar, Angelina Teny said he was doing well in South Africa where he is currently spending time. He is there as a guest of the government of South Africa and not as a refugee or under house arrest as reported in some media outlets, Teny said.
