African Union chair condemns massacre of 135 people in Mali

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has condemned in strong terms the murder of little over 135 people among them women and children after the Dogon militia already blamed for scores of attacks in central Mali over the past year attacked Peuhl village.

Horrifying video of the massacre which occurred last  has promoted several human rights movements to urge the Malian government to investigate the massacre and pre-empt any further attacks

Reports from Mali hold that the brutal killings occurred in Welingara in the Mopti region on the central part of Mali,

Condemning the attack, the Chairperson underlined the need to do everything possible to identify the perpetrators of this despicable attack and bring them to justice.

“It is crucial that strong measures be taken to address the root causes of this violence, the persistence of which can only further complicate ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability,” an AU statement said.

UN Security Council President Francois Delattre, also condemned the killings as an “unspeakable attack” late Saturday.
